''Nyaaa'' anime con - getting ready!

As you might already know, tomorrow starts the anime convention ''Nyaaa''' held in the town Utena, in Lithuania. Me and my friends are setting off on the journey tomorrow morning.
Brief history: It was last year in summer when I decided to travel abroad to visit an anime convention, and also, do an actual cosplay myself! This convention  was ''Nyaaa'' in Utena! Those were probably one of the best 2 days of my life. Im a short summary - everything was amazing, and I was filled with so much positive energy afterwards. Also, my cosplay was a hit! I looked fantastic as Hatsune Miku.
Now It has been a year since my first cosplay and out trip to Utena. I have been to conventions in Lithuania already twice, but somehow this feels special, because we will return to the place where it all began. I am very excited!
Right now I'm sitting by the PC, my room looks like a war zone, because this week has been dedicated to my last minute cosplays. I should probably clean that up. It is very late, so I might pack tomorrow.
And lastly, before I loose my train of thought completely, I will tell you about what I'm intending to cosplay. For the main event I will cosplay Rin Okumura from Ao no Exorcist. Today I finally finished my cosplay, honestly, I did not want to take it off! I feel very confident about this cosplay. My other cospays that weren't my Utena's Miku, were not that strong, but I'm proud how this came out. And at other moments I might cosplay Panty from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, I only have two half-assed cosplays for her, which I will improve in time, her casual red dress and police outfit.
I will probably disappear from the internet for the 3 days I will be away. But when I return - blog and picture galore!
Earlier this evening, my good friend Marta came over, we planned to try out our cosplays and make-up, also rehearse our performance. While I was admiring myself in the mirror, she found this image on google and put it as my desktop.

DIY - funky owl tank top

As usual I was one day aimlessly browsing the vast pages of the internet until I stumbled upon this image:
My face expression after seeing the shirt in the above image.

I fell in love. With the owl on that shirt. I realized that I must have that shirt. But where in the world would I buy it? Plus, it would be expensive as hell. They always are. But the owl looked pretty simple and I bet I could get some colourful crap to sew on it easy.

Long story short - I finally decided to do some DIY!
Now I will share my amazing creative process!

    1. The stuff you will need:
An actual shirt on which to draw. Do you know how hard it is to find a cheap, plain shirt? I wanted to do a t-shirt, but tank tops were cheaper. Isn't the whole point of DIY to do it cheaper than buying? Well half of the point at least. After walking threw every store in the mall several times, I found the cheapest top there was - a light brownish tank top for 1.99 Ls (that is about 4 USD). I originally wanted to go with white, but I thought this colour will work as well.
    2. Get all the additional stuff that you will need:
      a) Textile paints (Black) and a brush
      b) Buttons or sequins or anything else colourful that you will want to sew on as feathers.

I bought a pack of sew on decorations. The pack had lots of shapes and colours. I choose leaves, because they resembled feathers.
    3. Let the fun begin! It is time to start painting the owl.
After researching google by writing "hipster owl", I decided to stick with the owl design on the original shirt. So, first off, I put a piece of cardboard inside the shirt, so the paint doesn't smudge the back. Then I just started drawing.
I'm watching Desperate housewives season 6 on the laptop.

It's a spotted owl!
Done! It's so cute! Now only to draw the feathers where I will place the sequins.
    4. Sewing!
After drawing the feathers on the stomach, I decided on a pattern how I'll place the leaf sequins. They were in 2 different sizes and 4 different colours. For sewing I used 4 different threads, each about the same colour as the leaves.

DONE! :)

It only took me 2 days, because I'm lazy. But it was a lot of fun, and I'm proud of myself for finally doing something creative and productive.

My psychology teacher once said that an owl kinda represents me. I have no idea what she was talking about.
